Definition

Report is a text which presents information about something,as it is . It is as a result of systematic observation and analysis

Generic Structure

1.General Classification :introducing the thing that will  be talked about

2.Description : elaborating and reporting on the subject in detail

Social Function

To describe the way things are,with reference to a range of natural,man-macle and social phenomena in our environment

Language Features

Use of general nouns
Use of relating verbs / linking verbs
Some use of action verbs when describing behavior / habits
Use of timeless present tense to indicate usualness
Use of technical terms

Example :

“Birds”

Birds are interesting flying animals. They are vertebrates and warm blooded animals. They belong to aves class and
they can be found all over the world.

Birds breath with their air pocket. Beside as respiration organ, air pocket also can enlarge or reduce their weight when flying or swimming.There are many kinds of birds. Earth bird has special characteristic. They have different morphology according to their food and their habitat.Some of them eat seeds, pollen, fish or meat.There are some species that live in land and the others live in water. Land birds live on their nest.

Female birds have specific tasks.
they lay eggs and feed their baby,
Beside that they look for foods for their baby.

Hawaii Excelsior

August 4th , 2012

Dear Marry,

          How are you ? Have you finally found a new flat? And how was your holiday ? I’m writing to you from Hawaii.I came week ago and stayed with my friend,Caroline , in a luxurious hotel called Excelsior Hotel. We had a spacious,comfortable room with a large terrace overlooking the ocean

          Yesterday ,we started learning surfing.we really enjoyed it and the instructor said we were doing  quite well.I started scuba diving course three days ago and tommorow I’m going to dive in the ocean for the first time.I’m very excited about it !!

That’s all for now,I must rush for a spectacular party tonight.

Definition

There are three definition procedure text :

1.Text that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation  manuals e.g how to use the video,the computer,the tape recorder,the photo copier,the fax.

2.Text that instruct how to do  a particular activity e.g recipes,rules for games,science expriments,road safety rules.

Social Function

The purpose procedure text is to tell the reader how to do or make something. The information is presented in a logical sequence of events which is broken up into small steps.

Language Features:

1. Focus on generalized human agents
2. Use of simple present tense
3. Use of mainly temporal conjuctive relations
4. Use of mainly material (action) clauses

Example :

Corn Flour Pudding

Ingredients :

200 ml milk

200 gr corn flour

500 gr brown sugar

4 tbs water to dissolve the sugar

1 stick of 10 cm cinnamon

1 tbs butter

3 tbs cinnamon for sprinkling

Method :

First,thoroughly mix milk and corn flour until smooth.

Second,Boil brown sugar and water until sugar disolved , then sieve.

Next,Mix brown sugar with milk,corn flour mixture and cinnamon stick. Add butter and simmer whilst stirring until corn flour become thick.

After that ,Pour into a suitable mould and let it cool.

Finally , When serving sprinkle with ground cinnamon.Makes : 10-15 portions,best served when cold

Descriptive text is a text which say what a person or a thing is like.its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person , place , or thing

     Taylor Swift is good looking.Her face is cute enough with blue eyes and pointed nose.She has blonde straight hair.She also has a slim body. Taylor Swift is a popular singer especially in country music. Her voice is nice and easy listening. She is very popular with her song, White Horse, for instance.  Beside singing, Miss Swift also works as a songwriter.Almost all of her songs are created by herself.Some of them have achieved music awards.
